International Style DanceSport
A grouping of 10 dances based in the standardized principles and syllabus steps defined in the United Kingdom. The 5 Standard dances (Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep) and the 5 Latin-American dances (Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive) are the "world recognized" competitive dances.
 
International Standard
A grouping of 5 dances consisting of Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep. All five of these dances are done in a "closed" dance hold. This competitive dance style has been referred to as the "Modern" style in the past.
 
International Latin-American
A grouping of 5 dances consisting of Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive. These five dances continue to be the highlight event of competitions and televised events due to the energy demonstrated by its athletic participants.
 
Social Dances
All of the previously mentioned dances in addition to dances popular in social clubs: salsa, argentine tango, merengue, lindy-hop, etc.
